How to set up an Epson Printer with Printers Jack Sublimation Ink

What You Will Need:

  • A Printer compatible with Sublimation Ink- I used an Epson 7720
  • Printers Jack Ink- found here
  • Refillable Cartridges- I used these, but my favorite are these InkOwl Cartridges
  • Sublimation Paper

Let’s Get Started!

Step 1: Follow the directions provided by the printer’s manufacturer for set up

Make sure you print nozzle check with the Epson Ink to make sure that your printer is working correctly. Once you install sublimation ink into your printer you will void the warranty.

The nozzle check should print with no broken lines.

To print a nozzle check on the Epson 7710/7720, use the touch screen and scroll left until you get to “Settings”, then click, “Maintenance” >> “Print Head Nozzle Check”

If you have broken lines, run a print head cleaning. Run as many as needed until you have perfectly straight lines.

On the Epson 7710/7720 go to settings >> maintenance, then click “Print Head Cleaning”

Here are Epson’s set up directions for the Epson 7710/7720

Step 2: Download and Install the print drivers for your printer

The Epson Printer Drivers for the Epson 7710/7720 can be found here under “downloads”.

Step 3: Fill your cartridges with Printer Jack’s Sublimation Ink

While your software is downloading, fill your cartridges

Detailed instructions on how to fill Ink cartridges here.

Step 4: Remove Epson ink cartridges and load your refillable cartridges.

In order to replace cartridges on an Epson 7710/7720 go to settings>>maintenance, and click “replace Ink cartridges”

Lift the lid of the printer and ink cartridge ink holder lever.

Remove the Epson Cartridges

Replace with refillable cartridges. Make sure that you hear the “click noise” and they are secured properly. Close the ink cartridge lever and close the lid.

Make sure that you have followed the directions of your specific cartridges, some have you remove certain plugs when you put them in the printer. If you don’t follow the directions you can risk ruining your print head.

The Try The Ink Cartridges used here, need to have the colorful plugs removed from them.

Step 5: Acknowledge the use of third-party ink

Acknowledge on the printer screen that you have installed third-party ink cartridges. Hit “Ok” and then a screen will pop up explaining that you have voided your warranty, click “proceed” And then click, “yes”

TROUBLESHOOTING

If your printer doesn’t recognize your cartridges, take them out and wait about five minutes and reinstall them. Try that up to three times. If that doesn’t solve the problem, install the Epson Cartridges and start over.

Step 6: Run a minimum of four print head cleanings

Some ink cartridges say to run five and others say run as little as two.

I ran cleaning carts through my printer and it took four cleaning cycles until the printer didn’t have any trace of ink, therefore you will need to run 4 cleanings to make sure that you have removed all the Epson ink.

Step 7: Run a Nozzle Check

Once you have performed adequate print head cleanings, run a nozzle check, you will want perfect lines again. If your lines are broken, keep running print head cleanings until you get a clean nozzle check.

Run up to ten cleanings before waiting 24 hours to run more cleanings. You can break the print head by completing too many print head cleanings.

Optional

Step 8: Install Printer Profiles

If you are going to be using programs that support color management(Photoshop, Illustrator, Corel, etc.) then you should install the Printer Jack Printer Profiles

Enter your information below and we will email you with the custom profile made just for Printers Jack Ink. Once you sign up, it can take up to five minutes to send.

  • The profile was designed on an Epson Workforce 7710/7720 so the best results will be on the same type of printers but it will work on all four color (CMYK) printers.

Step 9: Download the Printer Profile

Open your email and download profile. The file is in .zip format so you will need to unzip it.

Step 10: Start Printing!

Make sure that you mirror your image when printing and if you want to use the printer profile, that you use a software that uses color management and that you select the profile during printing.

As a general rule of thumb, I press items at 400 degrees for 60 seconds. If you bought sublimation blanks from a blanks company, then they should provide directions. Here is a link to our sublimation blank company directory.

  1. I have installed the Printers Jack icc profile. (we use Photoshop). So in the print dialog box, I select for Photoshop to manage the colors, and then select the Printers Jack icc profile. I was wondering if I should also go to Edit>Color Settings (within Photoshop) and select the Printers Jack profile in the box for the RGB workspace…..? Thank you!

  2. Jane,
Thank you! And I am thinking it was originally set to Adobe RGB in that color settings space within Photoshop…(I guess I jumped ahead and changed that setting to the Printers Jack icc profile) I will now change it back to Adobe RGB. We have just had a heck of a time getting our colors to print correctly. Initially, no problems at all…then for no reason, things started shifting. I think we are on the right track now!

  3. Hi Jane, I have an Epson wf-3720 set up for sublimation printing. I am using printers jack ink and the profile you made for that ink. I’m not happy with the colors I’m getting. Everything seems to have a green hue to it. Reds come out orange, black & white type images have a green tint to them and so does skin. Browns also aren’t really brown at all. I’m at my wits end in trying to figure out how to fix this. My old Epson printer had great color with the printers jack ink. Help! Please!
    Thank you
    Paula

    1. Hi Paula, the profile was made for a Epson 7720 printer so it may not work with a 3720. I wish I could be of more help!

  4. Hello,
I have the Epson 2760 with Printers Jack EP Sublimation Ink installed.
Do you have a profile for this setup?
    Thanks
    Candy

    1. Hi Candy, I haven’t made a profile for that setup. Have you reached out to Printer Jacks to see if they do?

hello i need help!!! i have done all the steps to converting the reg ink to sub ink. BUT now the ink is not printing ive ran power cleans and nozzle checks and tried to print bright photo but the ink is still not coming through

    1. Most likely not, most users have been reporting that it wasn’t helpful. It was designed for printers that use ink code 252.
